DHL buys out Molson Coors stake in Tradeteam

DHL Supply Chain has taken full ownership of UK drink logistics business, Tradeteam, after acquiring the remaining shares from its partner Molson Coors Brewing.

Earlier this year, Molson Coors renewed elements of its primary distribution and national distribution centre contracts with Tradeteam until 2015.

The company makes more than 20,000 deliveries a week, to pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels, and retailers.

DHL has been the primary stakeholder in Tradeteam for 19 years, where it managed the business in partnership with Molson Coors.

“Having reviewed our respective strategic objectives, both DHL and Molson Coors decided that it was an appropriate time to complete the transition,” said a DHL spokesperson.

The deal was completed on 31 December 2013.

Tradeteam was set up in 1995 as a partnership between Bass Brewers and Exel Logistics, (now DHL) to handle Bass’s distribution.

Bass was subsequently taken over by Belgian group Interbrew which then sold the Carling, Grolsch, Worthington and Caffrey’s brands to US group Coors making it the second largest brewer in the UK.

Tradeteam offers a range of logistics services to the drinks industry nationwide. It has 29 sites across the country, more than 450 vehicles, and employs some 1,700 people. It had UK sales of £160.3 million in 2011.
