The result of the inquiry into the largest ever Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) promoted by the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) is due imminently. This will allow land assembly for the 420 acre Kingsway mixed use development in Rochdale to be completed.

Kingsway is one of the NWDA’s strategic sites that will be developed over the next 15 years. It will be predominantly be B1, B2 and B8 (distribution warehousing) development.

The NWDA, who made the CPO in May 2002, have received the CPO inspector’s report which recommends confirmation of the CPO. The GONW has advised that the Secretary of State is minded to follow those recommendations and confirm the CPO. Formal notification will be followed with decisions on the Highways and Stopping up Orders, which were considered at a conjoined Public Inquiry held in the summer of 2003. The orders were promoted by the NWDA, as a member of the Kingsway Partnership which includes Wilson Bowden Developments, Rochdale Council and Rochdale Development Agency.
