Procter & Gamble has awarded Wincanton a contract to manage re-packaging and customisation activities for its Fabric and Homecare business.
Wincanton will be responsible for overseeing the entire re-packaging process, from the specification and design of the packaging through to packing activities. Examples of the customisations are triple pack promotions, display pallets and semi-pallets.
A high-class White Room, including specialist lighting for design, will be set up in the warehouse to carry out the work.
In addition, a customised warehouse and production management system will be in operation for inventory control and batch traceability.
Girish Deshpande of Procter & Gamble said: “The customisation needs have increased and will continue to increase over time to meet the needs of retailers and the consumers. We need to ensure we’re always ahead of the game by having the right capability in place to meet both short and long term demand.
“As Wincanton already has a proven track record in supply chain operation with P&G, managing our automated UK distribution centre in West Thurrock, it was a right decision to move part of our customisation operation into Wincanton to maximise the synergies.”
Jeff Anderson, managing director, manufacturing for Wincanton said: “We are able to offer Procter & Gamble more than packaging design. The packaging has to withstand transport and display without damage and we will incorporate this into the design stage.
“We are already on site, which means we are able to react quickly to demand. We will also pack products into the promotional packs and ensure that the products are then delivered on time,” he said.
