The FTA’s North East Freight Council has welcomed the publication of the Tyne and Wear Freight Map.
The map, produced by Faber Maunsell on behalf of the Tyne and Wear Local Transport Plan Partners, and in conjunction with the Tyne and Wear Freight Transport Partnership, shows the designated road freight network which drivers are expected to use in order to access destinations within the territory wherever possible. It also includes more detailed local information, bridge heights and weight restrictions and information on fuel saving, safe driving, road works and abnormal loads guidance.
Malcolm Bingham, the FTA’s head of policy – Northern England, said: “Publication of the freight map provides operators and drivers with a valuable aid to route planning and daily operations. For the benefit of both itself and for local residents and road users, the industry always seeks to use the most appropriate routes and the new map certainly supports that process.
