The WEEE directive, which sets out new rules for the disposal of electric and electronic equipment, is now due to come into force on 1 January 2007.
The legislation was due to come into for in August 2004 but has been delayed because of disagreements over how it should be implemented.
Last week, The Department for Trade and Industry, announced a public consultation which is due to close on 17 October 2006.
Following that, the legislation should come into force on 1 January 2007 with full producer responsibility from 1 July 2007.
