The new national hub for the Co-operative group has been officially opened in Coventry. Employing 670 staff, the new site will service the 3,300 Co-op stores, that form the Co-operative Retail Trading Group (CRTG).
The site at Prologis Park, Coventry, began operating last year, but now it is up to full productivity it has been formally opened by the Co-operative group’s chief executive, Martin Beaumont.
He said: “The opening of the National Distribution Centre and the reorganisation of our logistics network is a huge step forward in terms of food distribution for the Co-operative Movement helping us to provide even better service levels to our stores and customers.”
“We now have a much more effective and efficient supply chain, enabling us to negotiate significantly better terms with our suppliers, which is an ongoing priority for us.”
The Co-op said that by centralising the distribution of most of the ambient grocery products, the regional warehouses are able to focus on keeping stores supplied with faster-selling lines.
