Roadways Container Logistics has opened the new Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT), with the arrival of the first train from Southampton.
Roadways says the 25 acre site at Birch Coppice Business Park will provide strategically placed loaded container storage and lifting close to the Midlands motorway network.
The new terminal is expected to handle around eight trains per day, between each of the major container ports. The site will also function as an operating base and central hub for 50 liveried Roadways vehicles.
The common-user facility is part of a multi-million pound investment which will help facilitate on-time container deliveries and enable rail operators to enhance their services.
