Wincanton has bought RDL Holdings for £22 million. This is the second business that Wincanton has acquired this month, following the purchase of distribution company, Lane Group.
RDL operates within the building products and construction industries and has a customer portfolio including; Ibstock, Hanson, Lafarge, Brett Landscaping, H&H Celcon, Forticrete and Omya. RDL employs 350 people and has 200 vehicles on 38 sites across the UK.
Graeme McFaull, Wincanton’s chief executive, sai that the acquisition of RDL is an exciting development and helps establish a leading position for Wincanton in the construction logistics sector. The acquisition is being financed in cash from Wincanton’s existing business and is expected to pay a further £5 million, subject to RDL’s performance leading up to the end of next year.
Nick Graham, business unit director, said: “We’ve got a steady track record of sustained growth over the past five years and we’re keen to continue that.”
He said that Wincanton is a market leader in a lot of the markets it operates in and is now looking at new sectors that will enable it to grow further.
Graham said that the construction sector is such an opening as it currently has a fragmented distribution industry. He felt that Wincanton’s purchase puts it in a strong position in the market at the outset.
He confirmned that the management at RDL will stay in place although the business will be rebranded as Wincanton over the next couple of months.
