Schmitz Cargobull has completed an extensive refurbishment programme at the Maldon, facility of A1 Schmitz Cargobull, the trailer manufacturer’s used trailer centre.
Some £150,000 has been invested in improvements to the facility in anticipation of significant growth in the used trailer market. The two-acre site has space for more than 100 trailers as well as offices and a workshop where incoming units are inspected before being put out into the market.
Last year A1 sold some 400 trailer units and expects to top that figure this year. Managing director Derek Wright says the market is being driven by high demand for used trailers from overseas operators – particularly those based in Eastern Europe.
Throughout Europe, Schmitz Cargobull expects to sell 65,000 new trailers a year by 2010 so A1 has a fundamental role to play in support of Schmitz Cargobull’s manufacturing facility at Harelaw in the North East.
