Amazon Pharmacy has announced it will expand its same-day prescription delivery service to nearly 4,500 US towns and cities the end of 2026.
The roll-out will add close to 2,000 new communities during the year, extending fast and reliable medication delivery to millions of customers nationwide. The company introduced same-day delivery in New York City and the greater Los Angeles area.
Same-day delivery will be available in states such as Idaho and Massachusetts where Amazon said access to medicine has been constrained by pharmacy closures, staffing shortages and transportation barriers.
The expansion builds on record Prime delivery performance in 2025, when Amazon Pharmacy customers benefited from fast, free prescription delivery alongside a range of prescription discount programme.
“Patients shouldn’t have to choose between speed, cost, and convenience when it comes to their medication, regardless of where they live,” said John Love, vice president, Amazon Pharmacy. “By combining our pharmacy expertise with our logistics network, we’re removing critical barriers and helping patients start treatment faster—setting a new standard for accessible, digital-forward pharmacy care.”
From a logistics perspective, the service demonstrates how diversified last-mile delivery models can support healthcare access.
In 2025, Amazon Pharmacy served dense urban areas such as Manhattan using e-bikes, suburban communities like Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania via electric vehicles and remote locations including Mackinac Island, Michigan, where deliveries are completed using ferries and horses.
The company also supports fast delivery to remote Alaska towns and communities across the Navajo Nation, where traditional pharmacy access can require long travel times.
Additionally, in Los Angeles, One Medical patients were able to pick up medications within minutes using Amazon Pharmacy kiosks located in the lobby before leaving their primary care office. Amazon said it plans to continue expanding in-person kiosk access across additional locations in 2026.
