Amazon has announced plans to invest and additional €18bn (£15.6bn) to expand data centre infrastructure in Spain, taking its total investment to €33.7bn (£29.2bn).
It is also planning to build supply chain facilities in Aragón that will directly support its data centre operations across Spain and Europe, creating up to 1,800 jobs once fully operational.
The project will include a server manufacturing plant to complete assembly and testing, a manufacturing fulfilment warehouse, as well as a dedicated AI and machine learning server manufacturing and repair facility.
According to Amazon, the total investment is expected to contribute €31.7bn to Spain’s GDP by 2035, supporting up to 29,900 full-time equivalent jobs annually through direct, indirect and induced employment. Around 6,700 of these roles will be directly tied to Amazon’s operations, including data centre staff and workers involved in construction and infrastructure support.
“As Amazon marks 15 years in Spain, this new infrastructure investment reinforces our long-term commitment and will be pivotal for the country’s digital and economic future,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer.
“We’re supporting Europe’s digital capabilities and expanding cloud and AI infrastructure that businesses and organisations are already using to grow and innovate. Our investment will create meaningful opportunities for Spanish citizens, including high-skilled jobs and community initiatives, while advancing water stewardship and promoting carbon-free energy projects. This is a long-term bet on Spain, and we’re proud to make it.”
Amazon launched the AWS Europe (Spain) Region in Aragón in 2022 and has invested more than €20 billion in Spain since entering the market in 2011 across logistics, retail, cloud infrastructure and innovation initiatives.
