Home improvement retailer Bauhaus has deployed a robotic goods receiving system from XYZ Robotics at its central warehouse in Krefeld, Germany, automating the movement of goods from shipping containers to shelf-ready pallets.
The home improvement retailer is using XYZ Robotics’ RockyOne and RockyOne SE mobile manipulation robots to automate container unloading, carton identification, sorting and palletising.
Bauhaus operates more than 290 stores across 19 European countries, with its Krefeld operation handling thousands of inbound shipments daily across more than 10,000 SKUs.
The RockyOne robot autonomously enters shipping containers and unloads loose cartons, which can vary in size, shape, and orientation. Cartons then move through a barcode scanning system for identification and sorting before RockyOne SE builds pallets according to customer-defined patterns.
According to XYZ Robotics, the deployment is designed to reduce the amount of manual container unloading, which involves repetitive lifting in confined spaces and harsh temperatures, which contributes to high turnover and injury risk.
Torsten Winter, vice president of operations (warehousing & transport) at Bahag / Bauhaus AG, said: “Since going live, the system has run reliably around the clock without manual intervention. Our team can now focus on higher-value work.
“We are already exploring where else to apply this across our network. With XYZ Robotics, we have a reliable and forward-thinking partner, closely supporting us on this journey.”
Following the Krefeld deployment, XYZ Robotics said it is “expanding its European footprint to serve more warehouse and distribution operators”.
IntraLogisteX Düsseldorf will bring together logistics, fulfilment and supply chain leaders on 16-17 June 2027.
