DHL Global Forwarding has acquired freight forwarder Aero Cargas, establishing its first direct operation in Uruguay and expanding its presence across Latin America.
DHL said the acquisition will strengthen its position in the Southern Cone and expand its life sciences and healthcare capabilities, including pharmaceutical logistics and regional inventory consolidation.
Aero Cargas has more than 58 years of experience in the South American logistics sector and has worked with DHL Group for 33 years. Its operations cover air and ocean freight, land transport, industrial project logistics, Free Trade Zone operations and pharmaceutical logistics.
According to DHL, more than US$1bn (c. £740m) of pharmaceuticals pass through Uruguay annually, with the country serving as a distribution hub for products arriving from Europe and North America to be reprocessed, repackaged and re-exported to markets including Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.
“Latin America is becoming increasingly important as companies diversify supply chains and strengthen regional distribution networks,” said Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding.
Aero Cargas will become part of DHL Global Forwarding’s Peru-Ecuador-Argentina-Chile cluster, with all employees transferring to DHL.
