FedEx Express has introduced 14 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans into its pickup and delivery fleet in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The deployment marks the first use of that vehicle model by FedEx in the Middle East.
The electric vans will support daily last-mile delivery routes across the UAE. Each van has a payload capacity of up to three tonnes and an estimated driving range of up to 380km on a single charge. According to FedEx estimates the fleet could help avoid around 148 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The deployment forms part of FedEx’s broader strategy to transition its global pickup and delivery fleet to fully electric vehicles by 2040.
“FedEx is committed to building a smarter, more efficient network for our customers,” said Taarek Hinedi, vice president operations and planning & engineering at FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. “Electric vehicles are proving their value across our global operations, and expanding our fleet in the UAE gives us a tangible opportunity to reduce last-mile emissions while supporting reliable delivery performance with the sustained growth of e-commerce.”
He added that the move move reinforces the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and brings FedEx closer to its goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040.
The initiative forms part of broader sustainability efforts by FedEx in the region, including energy efficiency improvements at its Dubai World Central hub and the development of tools to help customers track shipment emissions.
