Wayland Games, Europe’s largest independent retailer for tabletop hobbies, has started construction on its new headquarters within Goodman’s London Brentwood Commercial Park.
The purpose-built facility, spanning 50,000ft2 in East Horndon, Essex, is set to be completed in 2025.
With just a stone’s throw from Junction 29 of the M25, the new headquarters promises streamlined logistics and increased warehousing capacity. This development positions Wayland Games to meet escalating customer demands, leveraging the latest technology to optimise inventory management and order fulfilment.
The cornerstone of the new facility reportedly lies in its sustainability initiatives. Embracing the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ specification and aiming for an A+ rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), the site integrates solar PV, innovative SolarWall technology, and rainwater harvesting to minimise its environmental footprint.
Richard Lawford, MD at Wayland Games, expressed enthusiasm, stating: “Construction of this new facility marks a significant moment in our history. The purpose-built space will allow us to drive greater operational efficiencies while catering for future business growth.”
Chris Beamer, associate director – development at Goodman, echoed the sentiment, emphasising the park’s appeal to diverse industries. “We’re excited to be working with Wayland Games to deliver a state-of-the-art facility that will support the company’s expansion and help meet growing customer demand.”
Wayland Games’ new headquarters will also feature a communal space for local gaming enthusiasts, fostering community engagement and camaraderie.
Moreover, Wayland Games is not the only beneficiary of this burgeoning commercial hub. The completion of Phase 2 at London Brentwood Commercial Park will offer two additional units, each boasting ‘market-leading specifications’ and fibre connectivity, catering to a variety of businesses and technological requirements.
Richard Brewer, MD at Magrock, Goodman’s construction partner, expressed delight in the partnership, highlighting: “Working with Goodman, we will be creating sustainable and state-of-the-art facilities for its customers. Each new unit will feature market-leading specification s, including on-site renewables to maximise clean energy generation.”
