Ahead of the event, Logistics Manager caught up with Saini to discuss how technology and AI can improve warehouse performance, as well as some of the wider challenges facing supply chains.
What will you be discussing at IntraLogisteX Dallas?
I’ll discuss how predictive maintenance enables organisations to move from reacting to equipment failures toward anticipating them. Drawing on lessons from aviation fleet operations, I’ll explain how operational data, maintenance history, IoT, AI, dashboards and automated workflows can support better planning and reliability. Although my experience is rooted in aircraft maintenance, the same principles apply to conveyors, robotics, automated storage systems, forklifts and other warehouse assets where downtime directly affects throughput and customer service.
Why is this topic particularly important right now?
Supply chains are becoming increasingly automated, so equipment reliability is more important than ever. An unexpected failure in an aircraft fleet or an automated warehouse can quickly disrupt schedules, productivity, and customer commitments. At the same time, organisations are collecting more operational data than ever before. Predictive maintenance helps convert that data into early warnings and practical decisions, allowing teams to plan labour, parts and maintenance activities before a failure creates a larger operational disruption.
What is the biggest challenge you see logistics and supply chain professionals facing over the next 12 months?
The biggest challenge will be turning investments in AI, automation, and analytics into measurable operational results. Many organisations have valuable data, but it remains fragmented across legacy systems and business functions. Technology alone will not solve that problem. Supply chain leaders must connect reliable data, clearly defined processes, cross-functional ownership and employee adoption. The organisations that succeed will be those that translate digital insights into faster decisions, improved reliability and practical improvements on the operating floor.
What technologies do you believe will have the biggest impact on warehouse operations over the next five years?
AI and machine learning, IoT sensors, computer vision and autonomous robotics will have the greatest impact on warehouse operations. Together, these technologies can help predict equipment failures, optimise workflows, improve inventory accuracy and enable real-time decision-making. I also expect cloud-based data platforms to play a major role by connecting information across maintenance, operations and supply chain teams. The greatest value will come from integrating these technologies rather than implementing each one in isolation.
How should companies approach automation if they are only just beginning their digital transformation?
Companies should begin with a clearly defined operational problem rather than selecting technology first. They should identify a process where automation can create measurable value, such as reducing equipment downtime, improving inventory visibility, or eliminating manual reporting. Start with a focused pilot, establish reliable data, involve the employees who use the process and define success metrics before scaling. A phased approach builds confidence, produces lessons quickly and is usually more sustainable than attempting to automate the entire operation at once.
