On 14 May 2024, Logistics Manager will be hosting a double-header of online panel discussions, allowing viewers to hear from industry experts on two of the biggest topics in logistics and the supply chain.
The webinar starts at 10:00am and will take place online, meaning viewers can access these valuable insights from the comfort of their own home or office. Plus, it is completely free – so registering is a no-brainer!
The first session, entitled “Navigating complexity: strategies for a resilient supply chain” will address: the challenges supply chains are facing including labour shortages, equipment availability issues, global bottlenecks and disruptions, and talent acquisition and retention; how these challenges can be navigated using innovative solutions and strategic foresight; and how to use actionable insights to build a resilient supply chain ecosystem.
This panel discussion will be moderated by Logistics Manager’s editor Emily Uwemedimo and panellists include Lewe Goldmann, supply chain and operations director at CLOUD NINE. More details of other panellists are to be announced shortly.
Throughout his employment at Kuehne+Nagel, Wayfair and High Street TV, Lewe Goldmann has managed a number of complex supply chains and worked with multiple global freight forwarders, 3PLs and B2B as well as B2C delivery companies in the UK and across Europe. In his current role as supply chain and operations director at CLOUD NINE, Goldmann’s responsibility and geographical reach have expanded and he oversees and manages the global supply chain as well as compliance, returns and customer experience.
The second session, entitled “Biofuels: the future of fleet?” will cover the adoption of biofuel to reduce emissions, the difference between biofuels and other fuel sources, and the costs associated with a biofuel transition.
This session will be moderated by James McLoughlin, Logistics Manager’s assistant editor and panellists include Dr Nicholas Head, XPO Logistics’ head of sustainability – UK and Ireland, Dr Erica Ballantyne, senior lecturer in operations and supply chain management at the University of Sheffield Management School and Thijs Boel, managing director of Spring Europe.
Dr Nicholas Head is XPO Logistics’ head of sustainability for the UK and Ireland. He has specialised in the environmental sector over the last two decades, including achieving an MSc and a PhD from the University of Northampton, focusing on circular economy and assessing the viability of business models structured around sustainability.
During his PhD studies, Dr Head lectured on his specialisms of circular economy and systems thinking approaches to environmental issues at the University of Northampton and the Open University before moving back into the private sector as a consultant and then for various FMCG companies as head of sustainability positions.

Dr Erica Ballantyne is a senior lecturer in operations and supply chain management at the University of Sheffield Management School, where she leads the Logistics & Supply Chain Management Theme within the Operations Management & Decision Sciences Research Centre. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport where she sits on the Logistics Research Network forum committee.
Dr Ballantyne is an applied, interdisciplinary researcher in logistics, transport and supply chain operations. She is currently involved in the EPSRC-funded ‘Future Electric Vehicle Energy Networks supporting Renewables’ (FEVER) project, leading research investigating the electrification of vehicle fleets with renewable green energy.
Thijs Boel graduated in International Economics at Tilburg University in 2000 and started his professional career in TNT Post (part of PostNL) as operations manager. After that he had various roles in the operational part of the mail division, both in operational management as well as restructuring projects.
After several years in corporate strategy projects, he moved to Italy where he worked as programme manager at TNT Post Italy. Upon his return to the Netherlands, Boel has developed a successful career covering various responsibilities in different departments of the international part of PostNL (Cross Border Solutions), including director of international special projects and director of strategy, development and marketing, leading the transformation programme into cross-border e-commerce services.
In 2018, he took over the European leadership as managing director of Spring Europe, achieving a growth of over 400%.
