DP World is using CMA CGM’s revised JP8 service to support the movement of prefabricated housing materials for Ichijo Komuten.
The weekly service began operations on 18 March, providing the first regular direct shipping link between Sendai and the Philippines in eight years. It calls at Manila South Harbour and Batangas Integrated Port, key logistics gateways operated by Asian Terminals Inc., DP World’s local partner. The JP8 also calls at new ports in Japan and China.
The service is designed to improve transit times and reliability for cargo flows, which DP World said strengthens its ability to support Ichijo’s manufacturing operations in the Philippines, where prefabricated housing components are produced for export to Japan.
Ichijo works with House Research Development (HRD) and local manufacturer Nihon Sangyo to manage production and distribution.
Glen Hilton, CEO & managing director, Asia Pacific, DP World, said: “The JP8 service strengthens connectivity between Japan and the Philippines, while leveraging our terminals in Manila South Harbour and Batangas as key access points. Together, we are enabling a more seamless flow of materials that supports Ichijo’s growth and delivery timelines.”
DP World Effect in the Philippines
Meanwhile, separate analysis has highlighted the wider economic impact of DP World’s operations in the Philippines, particularly at Batangas Integrated Port, which is estimated to support 2,340 jobs nationwide and generate nearly US$28m (£20m) in economic activity annually.
The research by Oxford Economics indicates the port is driving employment across logistics, transport and local services, while strengthening the Calabarzon region’s role as a key industrial hub.
The study also points to long-term benefits, with improved connectivity expected to boost Philippine exports and contribute up to US$1bn (c. £737m) in additional GDP by 2035.
