Healthcare company Opella has announced that it has inaugurated a new production line for Enterogermina in Mexico following a US$70 million (c. £52m) investment.
Reportedly, the highly automated facility in Ocoyoacac will add an annual capacity of 200 million mini-bottles.
It will serve as a complementary regional hub to Opella’s plant in Origgio, Italy, and will operate on 100% renewable electrical energy.
Opella chief supply chain officer, Rafik Amrane, said: “This new production line in Mexico is a crucial step forward in our broader mission to build a highly resilient, global manufacturing network.
“By increasing our production capacity and being closer to the markets we serve, we are fundamentally changing how we deliver care, ensuring that our science-backed solutions are consistently available to the millions of families who rely on them.”
Following rigorous qualification and regulatory approvals, the new production line will progressively scale operations to bring the product to shelves across the Americas in the 2027-2028 period.
Opella Mexico general manager, Luis Soares, said: “With this new production line, we are strengthening Mexico’s role as a strategic platform for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports to Latin America.
“It will also enable us to increase the share of Opella products sold in Mexico that are locally manufactured from 60% to 80%, combining stronger, sustainable local production with greater regional reach.”
