Mining equipment manufacturer Sandvik is investing in a new logistics hub at its load and haul equipment factory in Turku, Finland.
The new facility will bring key logistics operations closer to production, replacing parts of the current logistics setup located around 13km away at Turku harbour.
By integrating logistics more closely with manufacturing operations, Sandvik aims to reduce handling and buffer times to achieve faster and more reliable deliveries to customers.
Wayne Scrivens, president of load & haul at Sandvik Mining, said: “Customer expectations for delivery reliability, flexibility and speed continue to increase. This investment strengthens our ability to serve customers with shorter lead times, more predictable deliveries and a more efficient end-to-end production flow.”
He added: “The Turku factory plays an important role in Sandvik’s global load and haul offering, and this investment supports our continued development of world-class manufacturing and logistics capabilities in Finland.”
In addition to accelerating material flows, the logistics hub is expected to improve internal efficiency and workplace safety by reducing transport movements between separate locations.
Scrivens said: “Efficient logistics is a key part of customer value. By improving how materials move through our operations, we can better support our customers’ productivity and project schedules.”
The project forms part of Sandvik’s wider investment programme at the Turku site, where the company has recently expanded and modernised operations to support increasing demand for underground mining equipment, electrification and digitalisation technologies.
Construction of the logistics hub will be carried out in phases, with ramp-up expected following completion of the facility and installation of systems in September 2027.
