Danish retailer Søstrene Grene has opened its first distribution centre outside of Denmark, with a new 45,375m² (c. 488,000ft²) facility at Prologis Park Venlo in the Netherlands.
Developed by Prologis as a build-to-suit facility, the new site will support Søstrene Grene’s expanding store network across Europe.
“Opening this distribution centre is an important step for Søstrene Grene. It gives us a stronger logistics base for serving stores and customers across Europe and supports the next phase of our development,” the retailer said.
The site is located close to the A67, the German border and key rail and inland shipping terminals. It provides a well-connected base in one of Europe’s key logistics corridors.
The facility, Venlo DC9, includes mezzanine space, wide-aisle pallet racking and automation-ready areas. It also incorporates a 3.3 MW rooftop solar installation; 0.7 MW is allocated to the building’s own electricity demand, with the remainder supplied to the local grid.
An all-electric facility, the distribution centre is targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and WELL ‘Gold’ certification.
“We are very pleased to welcome Søstrene Grene to Venlo DC9 as it expands its European distribution network,” said Gina Helmold, VP, head of capital deployment & leasing Benelux, Prologis.
