Wincanton says trading results since the start of it financial year in April “give grounds for cautious optimism with a recovery in customer volumes and of a stronger new business pipeline”.
In its interim management statement for the period it said that it had secured a number of renewals, including operations for adidas and Shell Gas, as well as winning new business with high street retailers in the UK and Ireland and an international transport contract for a multi-national electronic goods manufacturer.
It has now completed the major restructuring programme for its German road network and it said that this had started to produce positive trading results, following the closure and restructuring of a number of loss making depots.
It is looking for an improvement in underlying operating profit for the year to 31 March 2011.
