Bermingham joins from Ceva (formerly TNT Logistics) after 17 years there. His roles at Ceva included general manager, divisional director and managing director of its multi-user business division.
In the new position at TDG, Bermingham will assist in the external promotion of its integrated supply chain management service and promote a sector focus while looking at service skills across the business.
Bermingham said: “As with all businesses, TDG has been directly impacted by the downturn in the economy over the past few years. However the organisation has responded positively and with focus, resulting in a strong business structure and passionately developed services both with the existing customer base, and externally.”
“My new role is an exciting one, particularly during the current economic climate. I believe TDG is in a strong position to concentrate on strategy for future growth by applying our skills into complementary market sectors yet retaining our excellent record in service delivery and customer focus.”
Mike Branigan, chief executive of TDG said: “We are delighted that David decided to join TDG at such an exciting time.”
Bermingham joined TNT 1993 working for Newsfast. He was instrumental in establishing the TNT Network Logistics operation, building on the core newspaper distribution service. The company’s Newsfast service was the first to offer a road based delivery option for newspapers, effectively revolutionising the sector and becoming the market leader.
He was appointed managing director in late 2001 and in 2002 integrated the shared-user network of the recently acquired Taylor Barnard business with TNT Newsfast/TNT Network Logistics, creating a multi-user logistics operation, with sales of more than £200 million.
