DHL Paket has launched its own online shopping portal in Germany, known as MeinPaket.de offering a secure platform for online purchasing.
It says the service represents a completely new business area company, but it maintains that it is not competing with Amazon or eBay.
The new service mainly addresses the needs of small and medium-sized retailers in Germany and offers them an additional sales channel. Some 600 retailers have registered with the service.
Following registration, retailers and customers can access the shopping portal through a single login managed by DHL. DHL Paket offers portal partner retailers a comprehensive service – ranging from the complete management and billing to an insurance against shortfalls in payment.
Ingo Bohlken, chief executive of DHL Parcel Germany, said: “With MeinPaket.de, we offer even more reach to both our business customers, who can access 17,000 retail outlets and points of sales across Germany, and our 1.5 million Packstation customers.”
