The CILT and the Rail Freight Group have got together to target freight transport buyers who view the rail sector as too complex or costly, but want to investigate the possibility of moving their goods to rail.
The CPD accredited course, Demystifying rail freight: become an informed user of rail freight services, aims to explode some of the popular myths surrounding the sector.
RFG chairman Tony Berkeley said: “We want to help customers cut through the incredible complexity that seems inherent to the rail freight sector, so we thought we would launch a very interactive course as a start to that process.”
The course will target a broad audience of buyers and potential buyers from retailers, manufacturers and forwarders helping them to ask the right questions of their freight transport service suppliers.
Dorothea Carvalho, director of professional development at CILT (UK), said: “As someone who has worked in transport for a number of years but not in the rail sector, I share the feeling with many that the benefits of rail freight need to be made much clearer. One of the key aims of this programme is to inform people of the opportunities for moving their goods by rail, but also to remove the jargon that so often creeps into the discussions as well.”
