German homeware retailer Gries Deco has signed a contract with Swisslog to design and build its new “VZ Greenfield” logistics centre worth 85 million euros.
Swisslog will provide a turnkey, expandable facility on a surface area of 1.6m sq ft including a 40m high-bay warehouse with 12 aisles and some 110,000 pallet locations.
Swisslog will implement a CaddyPick monorail with 120 caddies, conveyor systems and pallet stacker cranes as well as the software and control systems.
The new facility is to support the retailer’s expansion plans and will replace the existing distribution centre in Niedernberg, Bavaria.
Construction is due to start in September 2011 and the logistics centre is expected to be operational by spring 2013.
