Kuehne + Nagel has extended its BMW logistics centre at Wörth with another 50,000 sq m of space.
The site at Wörth in Bavaria serves plants in Saxony and Bavaria and the move brings the total space used by K+N at Wörth to 95,000 sq m.
Plants in Dingolfing, Landshut and Leipzig are supplied from Wörth. Kuehne + Nagel is responsible for warehousing, sequencing, the commissioning of components, reverse logistics, customs clearance and various security tasks. It also organises transport to the production sites.
The supply centre will also be used as a cross-dock, where goods from suppliers will be received, handled and distributed to all Bavarian BMW plants. Since 1999, Kuehne + Nagel has been providing complex contract logistics solutions to BMW, including spare parts logistics, process management and the supply of BMW’s plant in Leipzig.
Kuehne + Nagel has more than of 230,000 sqm of warehousing devoted to BMW in Germany. Director Jens Wollesen said: “The production supply we are enabling for BMW from Wörth is of high logistical complexity. With the new supply centre for BMW we are setting a milestone for Kuehne + Nagel’s automotive logistics in terms of production delivery and sequencing.”
