Owens & Minor has completed the £101m (130m euro) acquisition of the majority of the Movianto from German healthcare group Celesio.
The deal, which was announced in July, gives Owens & Minor a third party logistics business in Europe to complement its US operation. It plans to integrate the two businesses, but keep the Movianto teams and logistics centres located across Europe intact.

In the UK, Movianto is responsible for handling more than one million items a day – representing about 40 per cent of domestics pharmaceutical products. UK operations are based in Bedford with three warehouses in Bedford, Knowsley and High Wycombe as well as five transhipment centres in Avonmouth, Cambridge, Carluke, Kingswinford and York.
“Movianto provides Owens & Minor with a premier European healthcare logistics service and also gives us a global platform from which to serve our healthcare manufacturer customers,” said Craig R. Smith, president & chief executive officer.
“This acquisition immediately increases our scope and scale in the third party logistics arena. Our manufacturer partners are asking for our assistance on a global basis, and now, with Movianto, we can offer them a comprehensive 3PL solution. We look forward to welcoming the Movianto team to the Owens & Minor family.”
