Awards 2013: Individual Contribution

Individual Contribution, sponsored by Akabo Media

Winner: Dino Rocos, operations director, John Lewis Partnership

This year’s outstanding individual took a roundabout route to the supply chain. He’s now in his fourth decade with the same retailer. But eventually, having turned his back on the art of the shop floor, he bent his mind to what he sees as the science of supply chain.

Using a bold new perspective, he saw a way to use the supply chain. Not just to deliver more, but to change the way the retailer did business.

His bold vision, to centralise fulfilment – including the emerging new channels for online shopping – was ahead of its time.

Original projections of £100 million of business online by 2017 were well and truly trumped with the firm’s first online-billion-pound-year in 2012.

And such ongoing success has given his board faith to green light some of the biggest development and automation projects in the industry.

With a pioneering approach to omni-channel operations, this individual has lead a transformation of one of the UK’s oldest retailing institutions.

And so the 2013 Award for Individual Contribution goes to the operations director of the John Lewis Partnership, Dino Rocos.
