Amazon has expanded its same-day grocery delivery network to more than 2,300 towns and cities across the USA.
With the latest expansion, customers in areas of Boise (Idaho), Salt Lake City (Utah), Fort Collins (Colorado), Omaha (Nebraska), Sugar Land (Texas), Des Moines, (Iowa) Kennesaw (Georgia) and Gaithersburg (Maryland) can add groceries to their order.
This expansion follows roll-out to Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, and New York City in the summer.
According to Amazon, perishable grocery sales “have grown 30 times” since January 2025, with more customers opting for same-day delivery.
Notably, over the last few months, fresh groceries accounted for 90% of Amazon’s top ten most-ordered items, with bananas, avocados, strawberries, apples and limes leading the way. Toilet paper came in tenth position.
Since August, Amazon has grown its perishable selection available for same-day delivery by around 30%.
“The selection, value, and convenience of Same-Day Delivery from Amazon makes grocery shopping that much easier for families across the country,” said Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores.
“We’re seeing customers combine their fresh grocery orders with their regular Amazon purchases, like electronics, gifts, clothes, and household essentials, in ways that make their lives easier and save them valuable time.”
In 2024, Amazon delivered groceries to some 150 million Americans, generating more than US$100bn in gross sales, excluding Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market.
The company plans to continue expanding the same-day grocery service into new area in 2026.
