Berkshire Grey at IntraLogisteX: think holistically about automation

On the back of a fascinating presentation from Berkshire Grey’s Neil Berry at IntraLogisteX today, Logistics Manager caught up with the automation expert to find out more about the integrated robotic, automated and semi-automated systems that are already delivering huge benefits for operations. As Berry stated, it’s the “supply chain of the future… today”.

Berkshire Grey is a leader in AI-enabled robotic solutions that automate for supply chain processes, and has been in Coventry exhibiting at IntraLogisteX. Berry, the company’s Senior Vice President & General Manager, EMEA, brought the supply chain of the future to life with a great presentation coupled with some real-life video footage of a top 10 retailer in North America that has completely transformed its processes with the latest technology available, in doing so realising some significant benefits.

Berry discussed the impact of the e-commerce boom of 2020 for supply chains, including consumer expectations. Additionally, he shared how Intelligent Enterprise Robotics are helping companies across retail, e-commerce, logistics, and parcel industries create resilient businesses with modern supply chains that can succeed now and into the future.

As Berry explained during his discussion, businesses today must overcome complex logistical hurdles to fulfill orders for any product in a variety of ways including kerbside pickup, buy online pickup in store, and same- or next-day delivery. As a result, fulfilment leaders seek to handle a wider variety of SKUs with increased throughput using a variety of constructs including back-of-store, small scale distribution centres, and full scale distribution centres.

Interestingly, for companies that might not feel ready for full-scale investment, Berry referenced RaaS (Robotics as a Service). “Berkshire Grey’s automated solutions are dynamically reconfigurable and available via RaaS implementation models,” he says. “RaaS allows customers to accelerate adoption of game-changing automation technology without upfront capital expenditures.”
