Automated material handling and smart intralogistics provider Fives has equipped the Jadlog São Paulo hub in Brazil with an automated sorting system capable of processing up to 16,500 parcels per hour.
The new 20,000m² (c. 215,000ft²) hub represents an investment of more than R$200 million (c. US$40m) by Jadlog, part of Geopost.
The facility, which was officially inaugurated in May, utilises Fives’ GENI-Belt sorter, featuring six induction lines and almost 300 destinations.
The system can handle both parcels and smaller items on the same sorter, reducing the amount of space required for separate handling systems.
Bruno Tortorello, CEO of Jadlog, said: “After growing tenfold in volume since the acquisition of Jadlog by the Geopost group in 2016, this is the most significant investment in our history, with the goal of expanding our facilities, operational capacity and bringing in the most advanced technology.”
Fernando Gasparini, COO at Jadlog, added: “Installing the sorter was a strategic step toward elevating the level of automation, capacity and predictability in our operations.”
According to Fives, the project is Geopost’s first installation with the company in Latin America. Fives has previously installed an automated sorting solution for DPD Portugal’s largest parcel distribution hub in Loures, Portugal.
