When Swiss-based transport company Kuehne & Nagel acquired ACR Logistics, its obvious aim was to expand its global network further into the logistically fashionable Eastern Europe and Asia.

Deutsche Bahn, the German rail operator, has bought US-based Bax Global to expand its position as an international logistics services provider in the Asia/Pacific region, and also in China and the USA.

DHL is making some 60 staff redundant as well as abolishing a number of temporary posts and short term contracts. In total some 120 jobs are affected. There had been speculation that the number of redundancies could be as high as 250.

Kuehne & Nagel has completed the acquisition of ACR Logistics for Euro 440m. With more than 40,000 employees in more than 100 countries, it now ranks among the top five global service providers in contract logistics.

Wincanton has generated £150m cash by re-structuring some of its debt. The company says the funds raised are being used to “refinance existing bank facilities and to position the company to take advantage of the opportunities for continued future growth.”
