Menzies Aviation has expanded its presence in New Zealand with the opening of a new airside cargo terminal at Auckland Airport.
The 32,000m² (c. 344,000ft²) facility, located within the airport’s Cargo Precinct, doubles Menzies’ operational footprint in Auckland and provides direct airside access, enabling faster and more efficient cargo handling.
The site has been secured under a 15-year operating agreement and will serve 18 airline cargo partners.
Auckland Airport handles up to 89% of New Zealand’s international air freight, processing more than 168,000 tonnes annually, making the development a key enhancement to the country’s logistics infrastructure.
The new terminal is designed to support time- and temperature-sensitive shipments, including pharmaceuticals and e-commerce goods, alongside general cargo and freighter operations. It will also be equipped with advanced systems, including Menzies’ MACH cargo management platform and Nallian’s Truck Visit Management solution.

The investment in the new terminal comes amid rising export demand, with air freight volumes of fresh produce passing through Auckland Airport up one third over the summer period. Reportedly, there has been significant growth in high-value shipments such as avocados (up 175% year-on-year) and cherries (up 53% year-on-year).
Beau Paine, executive vice president cargo at Menzies Aviation, said the expansion is a critical step in supporting growth across Oceania.
Mark Thomson, chief commercial officer at Auckland Airport, added that the development supports the airport’s long-term strategy to centralise cargo operations, improving efficiency and enabling the faster movement of time-critical goods.
“The relocation of Menzies operations to the new cargo precinct is a key step in our long‑term plan to centralise cargo operations to a dedicated cargo precinct away from passenger-centric activities.”
