Ocado has lost its High Court bid to open a micro-fulfilment hub in Islington.
The online retailer had taken the council to court after Islington Council blocked the development, which is adjacent to Yerbury primary School.
Ocado had applied to open a delivery hub on the Bush Industrial Estate site in 2019 after the site’s owner Telereal Trillium was granted a lawful development certificate by the council, allowing storage and distribution. This was revoked in October last year following a successful campaign by locals and former labour leader Jeremy Corbin as reported in Logistics Manager.
The campaign group ‘NOcado’ submitted evidence claiming that the site had not been used for storage and distribution since 1992. ON that basis the council revoked lawful development certificate. This was upheld by Mr Justice Holgate who said in a written ruling, “Telereal obtained a certificate to which it was not entitled on the basis of the information it provided and withheld.”
