The search for outstanding supply chains starts now with the launch of the 21st Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
The Awards, organised by Logistics & Supply Chain, are the gold standard of supply chain achievement and winners include some of Europe’s leading companies.
The winners of the 2017 Awards will be revealed in front of more than 600 industry leaders at London’s Park Lane Hilton on Tuesday, 14th November.
The number of entries has been growing steadily year on year, and last year was no exception, with more than 60 companies making it to the final stage of the awards judging.
What makes the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards special is the stringent process to analyse supply chain performance. Our judging team is made up of senior industry figures who bring years of experience to bear. Shortlisted companies are asked to make presentations to our judges and face detailed questioning from panel members. It’s a uniquely exhaustive process that makes the Awards uniquely worth winning.
Last year MAN Truck & Bus took the Overall Award in a tightly fought contest with Sky, John Lewis, Telefónica, Shell and Sightsavers. Other category winners included: Tesco, the BBC, Europris, and Argos.
HOW DO I ENTER?

THE ENTRY PROCESS
We ask all participants to register online. Registrants will be sent a registration confirmation email providing a unique reference number. Once registered you will have access to all of the entry forms available for download. These forms are in Word format so that you can complete them in your own time rather than rush them in one online session.
When you’re ready to send us your completed entry forms, simply use the details in your registration confirmation email to access the entry form and submission area online and upload the entry files.
The first stage of judging is the shortlist. We will contact you to let you know if you have made the shortlist before it is announced publicly.
If you make it to the shortlist, you will be asked to make a presentation during a face-to-face session with two of our judges in central London in late September/early October. More information will be provided to all successful finalists who are shortlisted.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WIN?
There is no doubt that the Supply Chain Excellence Awards are challenging. Entrants are asked to provide us with a lot of information. In some cases where the judges feel they don’t have enough information, they go back and ask for more.
Those entrants that make it through to the shortlist are invited to make a presentation to the judges and answer questions. We have a team of more than 40 judges made up of the team at Logistics & Supply Chain and leading supply chain professionals.
In the process the judges look for five common characteristics of high performing supply chains. These are:
- Does the supply chain help to deliver competitive advantage to your company – or is it a cost of doing business?
- Are your processes and systems streamlined and integrated across the end-to-end supply chain – or are they complex and fragmented?
- Is the supply chain organisation structured and staffed for success – or is it an admin function staffed with the dead weights?
- Have you built a collaborative operating model with a clear understanding of your core competencies – or are you a jack of all trades and a master of none?
- Have you a clear understanding of how to measure success and is the organisation incentivised to deliver it – or do you measure everything and do nothing with it?
If the entry was for a special category – for example Sourcing and Procurement, or Customer Service there is less emphasis given to the core disciplines and more emphasis to the relative performance and achievement of each of the finalists. In addition, the judges give special attention to the demonstration of innovation and the commitment, passion and enthusiasm of entrants.
