Temperature-controlled logistics provider Thermotraffic has expanded its distribution centre in Wrexham with a new automated cold store.
The expansion, completed on 28 September 2026 and operational from October, adds around 19,300 pallet spaces.
It takes total capacity at the site to around 33,150 pallet spaces, equivalent to 77,000 tonnes.
The development is Thermotraffic’s first automated warehouse in the UK. The company said the automated systems have been introduced to improve operational efficiency and workplace safety.
The expansion includes a new production area, bringing storage, handling and services, including labelling, repacking, X-ray and metal detection, blast freezing, up-tempering and microwaving, together at the Wrexham facility.
Thermotraffic said combining additional storage capacity with handling and production services at the same location is intended to help customers reduce unnecessary movements in supply chains and respond more effectively to seasonal peaks and changing volumes.
The company said it plans to continue investing in capacity, automation and value-added services in response to growing demand for temperature-controlled logistics.
The Supply Chain Excellence Awards celebrate the organisations, teams and projects driving improvement across supply chain operations, logistics, technology, sustainability, manufacturing, retail, healthcare and the public sector.
