Bito gets its kit on with BMW

Bito Storage Systems has developed a new parts kitting design to save space and increase efficiency for manufacturers. BMW has already deployed the system at its Hams Hall engine plant.

The installation consists of 63 new kitting bays, arranged facing each other into picking aisles with replenishment from the rear.

Bito says the system is designed to allow picking from the front, with pick by light and can handle a mixture of pallets, metal stillages and cartons or plastic containers.

Edward Hutchison of Bito said: “We were approached by BMW to come up with a solution which gave them fast kitting in restricted space and incorporated empties returned to the rear for removal. We designed a special unit based on sliding block puzzle principle.”
