DP World and Thames Freeport have completed a £13 million training and innovation facility at London Gateway, designed to support workforce development across the port and logistics sector.
The three-storey facility, known as The Hive, will provide more than 100 days of industrial and employability training each year, supporting approximately 1,125 trainees annually across Thames Freeport.
Located within London Gateway’s logistics park, the training hub will focus on advanced logistics skills, with facilities including crane driver simulators and provision for working-at-height training, as well as the use of virtual reality technology to support people interested in pursuing a career in maritime and logistics.
The development also provides meeting and event spaces for businesses operating across London Gateway. It includes a 100-person auditorium, flexible meeting rooms and a double-height training area. Additional facilities include a gym, all-weather padel court and multi-use sports pitch.
Alan Holland, chief executive officer of DP World London Gateway Logistics Park, said: “As the London Gateway Logistics Hub continues to grow, we want to ensure the infrastructure around it grows too. With The Hive now complete, we are creating a space where businesses can collaborate, employees can thrive and the local community can develop the skills needed to access new opportunities.”
According to DP World, London Gateway supports more than 10,000 jobs through direct employment and its contribution to the wider economy.
Construction of The Hive began in October 2025. The facility was built using British steel and has achieved BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification and an EPC A+ rating.
Training providers and other partners are expected to begin operating from the building in November 2026. SEATS has been appointed as the skills partner and will work with DP World, employers and regional organisations to deliver workforce development programmes.
