Semiconductor equipment manufacturer Lam Research has opened its largest warehouse in the USA, a 470,000ft² logistics and supply chain hub in Livermore, California.
The facility consolidates Lam’s California logistics operations into a single hub that will support its high-volume manufacturing plant in Livermore as well as product development at its nearby Fremont headquarters.
At the centre of the operation is a 40,000ft² automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) incorporating 15 robots and approximately 150,000 storage bins.
According to Lam, the system can accommodate more than 500,000 unique part numbers and has reduced inventory retrieval times from six minutes to less than 30 seconds.
Karthik Rammohan, senior vice president of global operations and enterprise solutions at Lam Research, said: “We have centralized Lam’s California logistics operations into one hub so we can move faster, plan better, and respond to our customers with the speed and accuracy they expect.”
DHL will help operate the site, which Lam said is expected to support more than 200 jobs by 2027.
Troy Rainey, director of US warehouse operations at Lam Research, said bringing operations under one roof would allow the company to “rapidly reallocate resources as demand and business priorities shift”, while reducing the movement of people and materials between multiple facilities.
